Gudalur (SC) Assembly constituency in The Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates and forms part of the Nilgiris (SC) Lok Sabha seat. With a population of 2.47 lakh (2011 Census), the constituency has a predominantly urban profile (60.3per cent), while 39.7per cent resides in rural areas. Scheduled Castes constitute 34.88per cent and Scheduled Tribes 7.79per cent of the population.
Gudalur (SC) has consistently leaned towards the DMK in Parliamentary elections, while Assembly contests have been more competitive, with the AIADMK making strong gains in recent cycles and gaining victory in 2021.
In the last held Assembly polls in 2021, AIADMK’s Pon. Jayaseelan won by a narrow margin of 1,945 votes (1.41per cent), defeating DMK’s S. Kasiligam, while voter turnout stood at 73.09per cent.
