Tiruvannamalai Assembly constituency is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and has witnessed electoral contests mainly between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also contesting in recent elections. The seat has largely remained a stronghold of senior DMK leader E. V. Velu across multiple election cycles.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s E. V. Velu won the seat by securing 1,37,876 votes. He defeated BJP’s S. Thanigaivel, who secured 43,203 votes. The margin of victory stood at 94,673 votes.
Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly elections, Tiruvannamalai had a total of 2,55,195 electors, of which 2,03,825 valid votes were polled. DMK’s E. V. Velu won the seat with 1,16,484 votes, defeating AIADMK’s K. Rajan, who secured 66,136 votes. The margin of victory was 50,348 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,12,430 electors and recorded 1,71,679 valid votes. DMK’s E. V. Velu won the seat with 84,802 votes, defeating AIADMK’s S. Ramachandran, who secured 79,676 votes. The margin of victory stood at 5,126 votes.
