Mother of accused, suspended cop held in Tamil Nadu Kavin caste killing case

MADURAI: Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID), on Friday, arrested suspended sub-inspector S Krishnakumari. She is the mother of one of the accused in the Kavin caste killing case after a court directed that she be produced before it.Krishnakumari was named as the third accused in the FIR and chargesheet but had not been arrested for several months. A warrant had been issued against her earlier, and the court recently directed investigators to secure her arrest and produce her before it.27-year-old Kavin was murdered at KTC Nagar in Tirunelveli in July 2025. He was hacked to death by his girlfriend's brother in Palayamkottai. He belonged to pallar community, and was working in an IT firm in Chennai after completing his BE.Police said Kavin was in a relationship with S Subhashini from KTC Nagar in Palayamkottai, who he was acquainted with from childhood.The case was registered as a caste killing. Palayamkottai police registered a case under sections 296 (b), 103 (1), 49 BNS r/w 3 (1) (r), 3 (1) (s), 3 (2) (v) of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act 2015, including for murder.The case is being investigated by CBCID. Other accused in the case, including Surjith, his father Saravanan and relative Jayapal, had already been arrested.
