The figures in professional wrestling are often subject to major controversies, and one such incident occurred in recent memory involving
WWE legend Mr. Perfect, Curt Hennig's son. He is Curtis Axel, a former WWE superstar, who was recently arrested on DWI and accident-related charges.
Why was WWE superstar Curtis Axel arrested?
According to public records, Curtis Axel's arrest took place in Anoka County on May 17. He reportedly crashed into a car at McDonald's drive-thru and refused to submit to a chemical test. The charges also stated that Axel had an open bottle of vodka in his vehicle and was accused of improper conduct. The Watch MN reported that police were dispatched to the location in St. Francis when Axel's car backed into another. When the cops arrived at the scene, the former WWE Intercontinental Champion smelled of alcohol, was unable to speak properly, and had bloodshot eyes. Moreover, the report further stated that Axel had to be removed physically from the car.
The report stated,
“Officers subsequently opened the door, reached inside to turn off the engine, and placed the keys on the passenger seat. After continued defiance, officers physically removed Hennig from the truck, escorted him to the ground, and handcuffed him. While seated in the squad car, an officer read him the Minnesota Breath Test Advisory. Hennig allegedly refused chemical testing and responded with profanities, including, ‘I don’t give a s***,’ and ‘f*** you, you f*****.'”Furthermore, Axel reportedly misbehaved toward an employee at the McDonald's outlet and the female driver whose car he hit, and said cuss words. Despite the major controversy, the former WWE superstar was released from jail two days later.
Curtis Axel left WWE in 2020
Curtis Axel debuted in WWE in the early 2010s as part of the former format of WWE NXT, which was a reality show. He came up on the main roster as part of The Nexus and even embarked on a singles run. Moreover, Axel was even paired with the legendary manager, Paul Heyman. The partnership led to a run as the WWE Intercontinental Champion and a promising future, much like his WWE legend father, Curt Hennig. However, it was short-lived, and Axel moved to other storylines.
Another one of his prominent programs was part of The Miz's faction, Miztourage. However, Axel was released from WWE in 2020, but returned in 2022 for a brief stint as a WWE producer. With Axel back in the headlines due to his arrest, it remains to be seen what is next for him.
