From Silicon Valley To Street Racism: Why Indians Are Facing Growing Hostility In The US
.
An Indian-origin couple in the United States were subjected to a racist verbal attack by a local man who later posted the encounter online, triggering widespread outrage on social media over anti-immigrant abuse and xenophobia. The incident, which has since gone viral, was shared on X by the man who filmed the interaction himself. The clip showed the couple standing in a parking lot when the individual approached them and began questioning them about their nationality before telling them to “go home” and leave the country. The video was uploaded with the caption, “I encountered some incredible H-1B Indians, and I had to let them know something!”In the footage, the man could be seen driving up to the couple and asking, “Are you from India?” The pair responded politely and nodded while smiling. He then asked whether they liked America, to which they replied in the affirmative. The conversation initially appeared cordial as the man continued asking whether they considered India or the United States to be a better place to live. Responding calmly, the couple said both countries were good in their own way and added that India remained important to them because their family lived there. However, the exchange quickly turned hostile when the man said, “Well, India is so incredible, why don't you just stay in India. Why do you have to come to America?”Appearing confused but still composed, the Indian-origin man replied, “To explore the world.”
The individual filming the video then raised his tone and told them, “No, we don't want you here. You gotta go home. Get the f*** out of my country.”Caught off guard by the sudden outburst, the couple did not engage further as the person recording began to leave the spot. The video sparked sharp criticism online, with many users condemning the racist remarks and questioning the man’s claim over the country. One user responded by posting an image of Native Americans with the caption, “What are you doing in their country???”Another wrote, “Your country? This isn’t your country. Go back to Europe.”The incident is the latest in a series of reported racist confrontations involving Indians and Indian-origin people abroad, with similar videos surfacing periodically on social media and renewing concerns over xenophobia and anti-immigrant hostility in several countries.
