Lucknow: Referring to the rescue of a dolphin stranded in a canal in Gonda district three weeks ago, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday lauded the efforts of health workers and caregivers behind the operation.The rescued dolphin was rehabilitated in the Rapti river. Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the initiative on Sunday during the Man Ki Baat programme, following which Yogi expressed his gratitude to the senior leader for highlighting the environmental and wildlife conservation case study on the national platform.A Gangetic dolphin got stranded in a canal in Gonda district after separating from the river and was unable to find its way out due to the shallow water level. With time, the dolphin’s condition deteriorated and an alert was sounded to the forest department. The specially designed dolphin ambulance, which was deployed recently under the Clean Ganga Mission, was summoned and, after a 13-hour-long operation, the dolphin was brought out safely and released into the Rapti later successfully.The ambulance was launched in Jan this year and is equipped with advanced equipment to treat the aquatic mammal that gets into trouble. “I thank the Prime Minister for raising the inspiring initiative before the public. Increasing awareness about wildlife and environment conservation efforts encourages the public to come forward for environmental protection,” he said. During his address, Modi also spoke about the team of experts that worked tirelessly to rejuvenate the Manorama river in Basti district.
