Lucknow: Anvesh Patel brought laurels to the city after securing a place among the top 100 candidates nationwide in the IIT JEE Advanced results declared by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), on Monday.
Patel, son of doctor parents, achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 68 and said he hopes to study computer science engineering at
IIT Delhi.
Anvesh is one among the top five students from the IIT Kanpur zone. The IIT Kanpur zone for the JEE Advanced comprises two primary states: Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
While Riddhesh Anant Bendale from Bhopal secured AIR 18, Parth Maheshwary, also from Bhopal, bagged AIR 55. Two others, both from Indore -- Arsh Jain with AIR 131, and Aarav Soni with AIR 155 -- too found a place among the top five from IIT Kanpur zone. The female topper from the zone is Anushka Aggarwal with AIR 859.
Patel credited his performance to conceptual clarity and disciplined preparation. “I focused on a deep understanding of core concepts rather than rote learning. I did self-study for 4-5 hours daily, took as many mock tests as I could and rigorously analysed my mistakes,” he said.
He added that his long-term goal was to pursue BTech in computer science from a leading institute and that he is seeking admission to either IIT Delhi or
IIT Bombay.
His father, Dr Ashish Kumar Kannaujia, who serves in the department of anaesthesiology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, said the family was delighted with the result and emphasised that Patel did not rely on excessively long study hours. He said it was his son’s consistency and sincerity that helped him secure the high rank. Patel’s mother, Kanti Singh, is also a doctor.
Another city student, Shashank, a resident of Telibagh, secured AIR 455. He said his strategy centred on intensive problem-solving, dividing difficult topics into smaller targets and following a methodical approach during the examination.
Shashank said he also took coaching, adding that expert mentoring complemented self-study. He said he is seeking admission to IIT Delhi or IIT Chennai in computer science and wants to build a career in artificial intelligence. His father, Nitishi Kumar Singh, is a retired Air Force personnel, while his mother, Vandana Singh, is a homemaker.
Avishi Pandey also featured among the city’s notable performers with AIR 1,246, attributing success to mock tests and regular practice of previous years’ papers. Other students with strong ranks included Rana Shatrujeet (AIR 782), Gaurika Mahi (AIR 1,819), Shaurya Jaiswal (AIR 2,550) and Sakshya Vansh (AIR 2,916).
In all, 5,552 candidates qualified the exam from IIT Kanpur zone. While there was none among the top 10, three made it to the top 100, six among the top 200 and 10 among the top 300 ranks. Twelve candidates found a place in the top 400 ranks while 16 made it to the top 500.
