There is no easy way to say it—Phnom Penh can be intense. Dust, traffic, noise. At times the “vibrancy” of the city life can just be too much and you need to take a break (that is without leaving the city completely or shutting yourself away in your hotel room). So what better way to get away from it all than to jump on a boat and float away on the river that runs along side the madness?
Boats are a great way to escape it all, but also to view the city and Phnom Penh in a whole new light. Available at a variety of prices starting from just $5, trips on boats allow visitors a chilled couple of hours to float down the Tonle Bassac River and take a beat.
Boat trips travel down the Tonle Bassac River to the delta where the Tonle meets the famous Mekong River at the base of the city. As the rivers meet and swirl, boats carrying passengers provide a great view of the city. The view is particularly impressive at sunset as the sun sets and the heat leaves the city allowing the skyline of towers, pagodas and the palace to share an impressive silhouette. Those wishing to go on a river cruise can head to the dock next to the Titanic Restaurant on Sisowath Quay (across from the Night Market) or head up further to the park on the corner of Street 94 and Sisowath Quay. There are boats always available for $5 per per person per hour or from as little as $20 per hour for the full hour for a whole boat. Glasses, beer and snacks are also available on the dock before leaving or on the boat.
Passenger Boats available next to Titanic Restaurant on Sisowath Quay or on the corner of Sisowath Quay and street 94.
