Bicycle tour of the Islands of the Mekong

One of the best ways to truly get to know the city is by bicycle. Slowly peddling your way around the streets gives a unique perspective to visitors and allows you to truly take in the sites and scenes of the streetscape. Phnom Penh in particular is a great city to explore by bicycle. Bustling arterial roads give way to hidden back streets and alleyways, local markets, wats and pagodas.
Phnom Penh has many motorbikes and bicycles for rent for as little as $2-$4 a day but a great place to pick up bicycle is Grasshopper Adventures, which offers a range of bike tours for all ages and skill levels. A favourite is the half day tour of the Islands of the Mekong, taking visitors across the river from Phnom Penh to explore the villages and communities that speckle the river bank. The ride is a peaceful ride along dirt tracks and through local communities, well and truly escaping hectic Phnom Penh and seeing the city and the surrounding area from a whole new perspective.
