For the Proteas, surprisingly they entered the arena with six debutants in their pack. They used four bowlers so far. But it didn't take too long for them to strike as Tsepho Moreki, on debut and in the very first over, dismissed Conway on a peach of a delivery and kept asking tough questions inviting the batters to find the nick. They persistently queried the Kiwi batters with questions, bowling on the channel outside off as the ball was getting good assistance. Dane Paterson came back to the attack, changing his end, and broke the brewing 37-run stand by dismissing Tom Latham, finding the conventional outside edge. Tsepho Moreki was pretty accurate with his lines and lengths and didn't bowl any loose deliveries allowing the batters to be at ease. LUNCH, DAY 1 - SESSION SUMMARY - 25 overs, 65 runs, and 2 wickets. This brings us to the end of the first session as the players head for Lunch on Day 1. It has been a sedate session if not at all. In pretty much of a shared session, New Zealand were invited to bat and were struck in the very second over as Devon Conway had a stay for a couple of balls before he fell wearing it on the pads. But after that, Kane Williamson and Tom Latham, both steadied the innings after an early loss. Williamson played some beautiful conventional drives, and he stands unbeaten at 26. Tom Latham was watchful in his approach as well, but perished the moment he looked well-settled. Rachin Ravindra, promoted at number 4, partnered Williamson well, helping the partnership to flourish. They would want to stitch the partnership as long as possible.
