The left-hander peppered the boundary ropes with nine fours and ensured India made the most of the Powerplay.
While Priyansh Arya was unable to convert his start, Prabhsimran Singh kept the momentum going with an aggressive innings of 84 from 69 deliveries. The wicketkeeper-batter struck 14 boundaries and looked set for a century before falling to a soft dismissal, leaving him frustrated after doing the hard work.
The middle phase belonged to Ruturaj Gaikwad and skipper Tilak Varma, who combined experience with patience to rebuild and consolidate. On a surface that gradually slowed down, the duo avoided unnecessary risks and rotated the strike efficiently. Gaikwad anchored the innings with a composed 66 off 80 balls, while Tilak added a valuable 50, ensuring India maintained a strong platform heading into the final overs.
