Vijayawada: A family dispute in a village near Machilipatnam triggered panic after a man allegedly threatened his wife with a country-made firearm and later walked through the streets carrying the weapon. The incident occurred at Kona village in Machilipatnam South mandal, leaving residents shaken.According to police, Pera Ramanjaneyulu had frequent disputes with his wife. During a fresh argument, he allegedly lost his temper, pulled out a country-made gun he had kept hidden, and threatened her, leaving her terrified. The situation took an even more alarming turn when he reportedly stepped onto the village's main road carrying the firearm in full public view. Witnesses said residents were gripped by fear as he moved through the area with the weapon in hand. Uncertain about his intentions and worried that he might open fire at any moment, several villagers rushed indoors while others fled the area.Upon receiving information, Bandar taluk police reached the spot, secured the area, and detained Ramanjaneyulu before the situation could escalate further. The gun was seized.A case has been registered. Police are probing how the accused procured the illegal firearm and whether any suppliers were involved.
