Ranchi: A team headed by director of ICAR-National Meat Research Institute (NMRI), S B Barbuddhe, on Friday completed their two-day inspection of the closed Bacon Factory in the city. They will soon submit a detailed report of its revival to state govt.
Barbuddhe told
TOI, “We will submit our preliminary report in a day or two and the detailed one will follow in another few days with detailed technical specifications.”
On their findings, he added, “The factory requires complete renovation to meet modern-day requirements. Owing to lack of proper upkeep over the years, it has suffered great damage. The flooring also needs to be in sync with latest technology. This apart, all equipment needs replacement. Meat processing and allied works need a highly controlled environment.”
Asked about the expected timeline for revival, he said that all will depend on the state govt.
The factory, located in Kanke area, has been closed since mid-90s owing to operational challenges and lack of a proper revival proposal. During its heydays, ready to eat pork items and sausages from the factory, sold under the brand name Ranbac, were in demand across Bihar, Bengal, northeast and even Nepal.
The Hemant Soren-led govt recently mooted the revival plan and roped in ICAR-NMRI as a technical consultant for the project by signing an MoU in April.
