Pune: A 66-year-old retired engineer from a private company lost nearly Rs63 lakh to an online share-trading fraud between Nov last year and Jan this year. The senior citizen’s son lodged a complaint with the Pune cyber police on Thursday.
An officer from the Pune cyber police said that according to the complainant, his father was added to a group of investors on a mobile messaging app in Nov 2025. He was assured good returns on his investments in the stock market and was told to download an app for share-trading.
“Over three months, the elderly man kept transferring amounts as and when he was instructed to. He could see some profit shown on his investment in the app,” the officer said.
He said that whenever the elderly man tried to withdraw his money, the crooks cited some reason and avoided him. After transferring Rs62.7 lakh, the man realised that he was being duped and stopped responding to the crooks. He then informed his son about it and they lodged an online complaint.
“We registered the case after preliminary investigations. Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
