When renowned sports commentator Jason Whitlock said something was off about Cincinnati Bengals quarterback
Joe Burrow, nobody paid attention. Well, we didn’t either.
But when Burrow’s own professor suggests there is something almost criminal about him? Now, that’s worth our attention and time.
Joe Burrow possesses qualities of first responders, policemen, and serial offenders
“Joe Burrow is the product of exceptional DNA,” sportscaster Trey Wingo said. “I’ll tell you a great story.
We got this note about Joe Burrow when he was 9. He was playing in an AAU basketball team. And his team was down by 8 points with 30 seconds to go.
The coach said, ‘We kinda thought it was over.’ Then Burrow scored 9 straight points, including 7 straight free throws, to give the team the win.
And his coach was also a sociology professor at Ohio University.
And after the game, he went to Burrow’s parents and said, ‘I just want you to know that Joe has the kind of qualities you find in first responders, policemen, and serial offenders.
In other words, his blood pressure doesn’t change whether he’s cutting the lawn or pulling people out of a building.
I say this because I work with people and do sociology on crime. Thank God! He’s not using his talents for bad. Because he could be the next Dexter.
He’s a stone-cold killer.”
Eerie element about Joe Burrow
If one coach’s assessment was not enough, Cincinnati Bengals’ then-offensive coordinator Brian Callahan also added some eerie element to Burrow’s personality.
“All the confidence and the smirking, he wants to take your freaking soul,” Brian Callahan said via The Athletic in 2022. “People feel that.”
When Burrow arrived in Cincinnati from LSU, he quickly became a generational talent for the Bengals. However, head coach Zac Taylor struggled to describe Burrow’s personality back then.
“It’s rare what he has,” Zac Taylor said in 2022. “It’s hard to describe. That’s the best way to put it. It’s hard to describe. You have to experience the full scope of it to really understand it.”
Why is Joe Burrow so calm?
When Sports Illustrated’s Kicks On SI spoke with Burrow about how he stayed calm under pressure, especially when opponents were racing at him in football, the Cincinnati signal-caller said,
“It comes down to preparation. If you trust the work you’ve put in, there’s no need to panic.
I’ve always felt that the calmest guy in the room usually has the best shot at making the right decision.
So, I try to be that guy, no matter what’s happening around me.”
