LUCKNOW: A 35-year-old property dealer was killed in broad daylight in a busy marketplace of the city on Wedndesday. A 50-second CCTV clip has captured the murder, purportedly showing two bikeborne assailants firing repeatedly at close range and continuing to shoot even after the victim, Sandeep Singh , collapsed.
The victim ran an office under the name PSS Builders Private Limited at Yadav Complex in Kalli Paschim market. Singh, originally from Takari village in Jaunpur, had been living in Lucknow’s Vrindavan Yojana with his wife Preeti, son Sarthak and daughter Shivi. The accused were riding a bike with a faulty number plate, police said.
Final shot was near victim’s head
Employees said he had opened the office around one-and-a-half years ago and was involved in real estate and property development work, with projects operating at several locations in and around Lucknow. The shooting took place between 12pm and 12:30pm when Singh arrived at his office with his driver, Pradeep Singh.
Investigators said Singh stepped out of his vehicle and began walking towards the office while speaking on his mobile phone when two unidentified men on an Apache motorcycle approached him. Eyewitnesses told police the rider was wearing a helmet, while the pillion rider concealed his identity with a white scarf covering his face and a cap.
The rider reportedly kept the motorcycle running as the pillion rider got down and moved towards Singh. Within seconds, the assailant allegedly opened fire at close range, sending shoppers, passers-by and traders scrambling for cover as panic spread through the market. Witnesses said Singh fell on the road after being hit by the initial rounds.
Should the authorities increase surveillance in busy areas to deter crime?
The attacker, however, allegedly continued firing even after he was down. Police sources said the CCTV footage shows repeated shots being fired in a manner suggesting the assailant intended to ensure the victim did not survive. After the shooting, the two men fled on the motorcycle.
Singh was rushed to Apex Trauma Centre-II under PGI by his driver with help from local shopkeepers and others present at the scene. Doctors later declared him dead during treatment. DCP (South) Amit Kumar Anand, along with additional DCP South Vasanth Kumar and ACP Gosainganj Rishabh Yadav, inspected the spot and questioned office staff and witnesses.
Investigators recovered CCTV footage lasting nearly 50 seconds that reportedly captures the entire sequence. Final shot appeared to be fired near the victim’s head, raising suspicion that the killing may have been planned and executed with precision.
Employees told police the firm was operating three project sites, including one near Don Bosco School in Mohanlalganj, another near Mohanlalganj Tehsil and a third near Amausi Railway Station on Kanpur Road. Colleagues described Singh as soft-spoken and friendly.
A case has been registered against unidentified assailants on basis of a complaint filed by Singh’s wife. Multiple teams have been formed to identify and arrest attackers, police said.
