Jodhpur: A retired additional superintendent of police (ASP) allegedly died by suicide at his residence in the Lalsagar area under Mandore police station limits Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Dashrath Singh Charan, a native of Nagaur district, who retired from service nearly two years ago. Police said Charan had recently constructed a house in Lalsagar and shifted there with his wife about a week ago after living in Jaipur for the past few years.
According to the preliminary investigation, Charan’s wife had gone to visit a relative when the incident occurred. On returning home, she found him hanging and alerted family members. Relatives brought him down and took him to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Mandore SHO Sheshkaran said police received information about the incident around 4pm. The body has been kept at the mortuary of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police suspect that Charan had been under mental stress for some time, however, the exact reason behind the alleged suicide is yet to be established. His son is currently living in Delhi with his family. Police have initiated further investigation.
