Rain, clouds pull temp down as Indore gets 15.6 mm rainfall

Indore: Indoreans witnessed a welcome spell of pre-monsoon rain on Friday early morning as dense clouds that had hovered over the city for the past few days finally opened up, bringing more than half an inch of rainfall and a sharp drop in both day and night temperatures.The steady showers kept the sun hidden throughout the day, transforming the city’s weather and providing much-needed relief from the summer heat.The rain began in the morning and continued intermittently through the day. According to the Meteorological Centre at the airport, 15.6 mm of rainfall was recorded in the previous 24 hours up to 8.30 am on Friday, equivalent to nearly 0.6 inch.With this, seasonal rainfall since June 1 has crossed the one-inch mark, reaching 25.3 mm.The weather change was reflected in the temperature readings as well. While Thursday’s maximum temperature stood at 38.4 degrees Celsius, already two degrees below normal, Friday’s daytime temperature dropped further to 35.1 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal. By 5.30 pm, the temperature was recorded at 34.6 degrees Celsius under cloudy skies.The most dramatic change, however, was witnessed during the night. The minimum temperature fell to 19 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees below normal and nearly seven degrees lower than the previous day.The cool night and overcast morning gave residents a rare taste of pleasant weather in early June.Strong westerly and south-westerly winds accompanied the rain activity, with gusts touching 56 kmph. High humidity levels of 96 per cent in the morning further indicated the presence of moisture-laden systems over the region.India Meteorological Department has forecast good rainfall activity in Indore over the next two days. While moderate to heavy showers are likely through Saturday, lighter spells are expected during the following days as pre-monsoon conditions continue.
