Road accidents leave 1 dead, 1 injured in city
Guwahati: Two separate road accidents were reported in different areas of the city during late night hours of Wednesday, leaving one person dead and another grievously injured.
The first incident occurred near the Assam Legislative Assembly building in Dispur. The deceased was identified as Bashab Raj Chutia from Dhemaji district. Police said Chutia was an architect working in the city.
Police said Chutia was travelling from the Khanapara area towards the Ganeshguri area when he rode at high speed, lost control and rammed into an electricity pole.
“We saw that a man was lying dead on the road and his motorcycle was found near a transformer, both the motor cycle and transformer were on fire. Chutia sustained severe burns and died on spot,” said a traffic officer from Dispur Police Station.
The second incident occurred in the city’s Bhangagarh area, where a speeding vehicle coming from the Khanapara area crashed on the Bhangagarh bridge. Traffic police officers from Paltan Bazar Police Station reached the spot and, during inspection, found alcohol bottles inside the car.
“According to the witnesses, there were two people who were inside the car, and after the accident, the main driver escaped, and a search for him has been initiated. Meanwhile, the co-passenger has been admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). We have not identified the persons yet,” another traffic police officer from Paltan Bazar PS said.
