Govt teacher stabbed to death on Amritsar highway
Amritsar: A govt school teacher was brutally murdered near Amritsar on Monday afternoon when he was returning home after dropping his teenage daughter at a tuition centre. The victim, Jagdeep Singh of Talwandi Manak village, was employed at Govt Senior Secondary School, Gehri Mandi, said Jandiala Guru DSP Baljit Singh on Monday. What led to the murder is yet to be ascertained but sources say police are looking at a family dispute.According to police, the assailants intercepted Singh on a deserted stretch of the road around 2:15pm. They stabbed him repeatedly in the head and face and then slit his throat, the viciousness of the attack leading police to suspect a personal angle.Singh bled to death on the spot. Passing motorists discovered his body lying on the road and alerted police. A police team rushed to the spot with forensic experts."The severity of his injuries indicates a targeted and deeply violent attack," a police source said. Police have launched a full-scale investigation and are gathering electronic and physical evidence from the surrounding area, said sources.Distraught relatives told mediapersons that Jagdeep was a peace-loving person with no known personal enmities or disputes. However, preliminary police inquiries hint at a different dimension. Highly placed police sources said that initial findings suggest a simmering dispute within the family but officers said it was too early to pin down a motive. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attackers and track their escape path, said sources.
