Woman found dead at home, husband hangs self in Jabalpur after domestic dispute
Jabalpur: A family dispute in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur city ended in tragedy after a woman was found dead inside her rented house and her husband was later found hanging from a tree near an abandoned building, police said.According to Adhartal police, the body of 35-year-old Neha Singh was found in a decomposed state inside her rented accommodation in New Kanchanpur late Friday evening after neighbours complained of foul smell coming from the house. Police said the woman apparently died nearly three days earlier.Investigators said Neha, who was working in Indore for the past year, returned to Jabalpur on May 28. She lived with her second husband, Mayank Singh, and their 8-year-old son. The couple had reportedly argued on Wednesday night, after which Neha was not seen again.Police said Mayank dropped the child at his sister’s house on Friday morning and disappeared. Later the same day, he allegedly attempted suicide in the Ranjhi area but fled after locals intervened. On Saturday morning, his body was found hanging inside a vacant VFJ residential quarter. A suicide note recovered from the spot allegedly stated that he held himself responsible for his wife’s death and also mentioned harassment by his mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
The couple’s 8-year-old son told police that during the argument, his father had threatened Neha with a knife, after which she allegedly said she would hang herself and went into another room.Police said the woman’s preliminary post-mortem report suggested death due to hanging. Investigators suspect Mayank later died by suicide due to guilt over the incident. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
