Houses destroyed, roads damaged: Indonesia's landslide leave at least 15 dead

Over 100 houses damaged

Over 100 houses suffered severe damage, and 42 were completely swept away in the recent landslide and flood in Indonesia, as per the country's disaster agency. Additionally, four roads and one bridge were damaged in the disaster.

15 dead, several injured

At least 14 people died and several were injured due to landslides and flooding that occurred in Luwu regency, South Sulawesi, just after 1.00 am local time on Friday. Another person died in a separate incident in South Sulawesi province and two others were injured.

Over 100 evacuated

More than 100 people have been evacuated to mosques or the homes of their relatives, and the authorities are working to evacuate more than 1,300 affected families.

Indonesia is prone to landslides during the rainy season, with the problem aggravated in some places by deforestation, with prolonged torrential rain causing flooding in some areas of the archipelago nation.

Rescue agencies are working to evacuate more than 1,300 affected families ​using rubber boats and other vehicles.

20 people died in April

Earlier, torrential rains in April triggered landslides and killed 20 people in Tana Toraja district of South Sulawesi province. Additionally, flash floods and landslides on Sumatra Island killed at least 30 people.
