If you can walk, you know how to snowshoe. This is probably one of the best ways to enjoy the snow and the mountains, while having a little off-piste adventure. The best part of snowshoeing, is that you don't have to be an avid skier or snowboarder to enjoy the activity—you can revel in the beauty of New Zealand’s alpine scenery just as much as anybody else. And if you’re a skier, it’s a great way to take a break and enjoy the peace and serenity of the back country, away from the busy slopes. Snowshoeing is simply walking in the snow. Back in the day, it implied strapping on tennis racquet-type contraptions to your boots, but today snowshoes are slim-lined and more technical, enabling you to walk across the snow with absolute ease. Suitable for all skill and fitness levels, this is a fantastic option for those who want to explore parts of the mountain not accessible for skiing or boarding. A guided tour would be your best bet for getting the most out of your experience.
