There’s no better way to ease into holiday mode than to soak in a naturally-heated thermal pool or indulge in a relaxing therapeutic treatment. New Zealand experiences a large amount of geothermal activity, responsible for the many bubbling pools of naturally hot water on the island. These pools are laden with minerals and locals have reaped the benefit of their medicinal qualities for centuries, so follow suit and take a dip to relax your weary body. The country's natural hot pools include picturesque springs accessible by walking tracks and isolated roads. The experience is truly magical—soak amongst the lush native bush serenaded by birdsong—and popular spots include places like Kerosene Creek in Rotorua, and Hot Water Beach in The Coromandel. If you’re after something a little more modern, thermal pool complexes can be found in both the North and South Island (try Waiwera just north of Auckland, Rotorua and Taupo in the central North Island, and Hanmer Springs in the South Island). Alternatively, head to Tekapo Springs for a unique experience of bathing in heated glacial waters, check into one of the modern day spas in the city, or go deep into the forested parts of the quiet coutryside for a combination of relaxing therapies and picturesque landscapes.
