Immerse yourself in New Zealand’s bustling markets. Selling everything from artisan foods and designer labels, to quaint bric-a-brac and curios—shopping here can be a real treat, especially if you’re something of a shopaholic. Those looking for a quick fix—or a bag full of gifts to take back home—will be impressed by the high quality and wide range of souvenirs on offer. Predictably, this is one of the best places to shop for woollens and outdoor gear, so stock up on some beautiful merino outerwear, possum knitwear, sheepskin jackets, and visit stores like Icebreaker, Untouched World and Macpac for top-quality apparel and products to explore the great outdoors. While these might be the only two things on your agenda, there’s so much more to New Zealand's retail scene. Buy some gorgeous pounamu (jade) jewellery, locally hand-crafted glass and wood products, and botanical skin care products. In fashion too, there are options aplenty—Kiwi labels like Karen Walker, Zambesi, Trelise Cooper, Kate Sylvester and World are well known on the international fashion circuit—and if you’re looking for something a little more youthful and affordable, labels like Huffer, Ruby, Madame Hawke and Storm have stores across the major cities. If you’ve still got cash to spare, spend it on some great little Kiwi goodies like manuka honey, wine or olive and avocado oils. Whatever your preference and budget, there’s something here for just about everyone.
