It’s not everyday that an ancient town can boast of being home to the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world. Windsor is less than an hour away from London and Windsor Castle is the focal point of all activity in this small town.
It is still an official royal residence, so parts of it are cordoned off to the public. However most of Windsor Castle is accessible to tourists. The State Apartments, adorned with precious jewels, intricate architecture, and works of arts by masters such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto and Gainsborough are the highlight of any visit to the castle. St Georges Chapel is one of the most beautiful religious buildings you would’ve ever seen. It is easy to spend an hour or two admiring its architecture. The Drawings Gallery is home to exhibits than change frequently. The audio guide that comes with the entrance tickets is amazing. It will help you make sense of the expansive property and get the most out of your visit to Windsor Castle. Once you have explored the building, head out to The Long Walk, a stunning walk that stretches from Windsor Castle to Virginia Water Lake. You will be surrounded by impeccably landscaped parkland at all times—definitely recommended.
