Delhi University has halted St. Stephen's College's plan to absorb outgoing principal John Varghese as a professor, deeming it "ultra vires" and a violation of UGC and university rules. The university insists Varghese should return to his parent institution for retirement benefits, escalating the ongoing governance dispute.

The bench rejected a submission made by the state’s additional advocate-general, P V Balasubramaniam, that withdrawing paid VIP darshan would cause revenue loss to the temples.
