Two stories in one headline! We know. Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson recently addressed the media after a two-year hiatus. He said he would not mind if Shedeur Sanders became the QB1 at Cleveland. This ‘taking the high road’ approach was seen in Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot when she reacted to Shilo Sanders’ “go make a sandwich” gender bias slur.

Deshaun Watson opens up about quarterback competition with Shedeur Sanders

Deshaun Watson said that since Shedeur Sanders was drafted by the Cleveland Browns, relationships and conversations have been growing. In fact, it was there even before. He knows the Sanders family. “I’ve known his brother [Deion Sanders Jr.] all the way back when he was at SMU [Southern Methodist University]. Coach Chad Morris was the coach there. I used to go out there and hang out with the team, and his brother was one of the players,” Watson said. So, Deshaun has a good relationship with Shedeur’s family. And they both root for one other. “We both have the opportunity to go out there and put out the best product for the team and let [head coach Todd] Monken and the organization choose who goes out there. And we’re going to support each other,” Watson said about the QB battle.
Now that it’s established Watson will take the high road if Sanders becomes Cleveland’s QB1, let’s look at Shilo Sanders’ sandwich comment -- which involves Watson, too.

Shilo Sanders’ comment on Mary Kay Cabot’s out loud support for Deshaun Watson

Even before the OTAs began, the Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot declared her QB1 for Cleveland. It was Deshaun Watson. This choice did not sit well with Shedeur Sanders’ older brother, Shilo Sanders. He commented on her Favoring-Watson-Over-Sanders post, saying, “Mary, go make a sandwich.”This gender bias slur is used to state that women belong in the kitchen and nowhere else. When 92.3 The Fan host asked Cabot about her views on Shilo’s comment, she said, “I have been an inspiration for lots of women and young girls that you can go out there and do a good job in a man’s world. There are so many women who have joined the football world, especially because of some of the things that I’ve been able to do over the years. I’m happy about it. And I know it will continue. Now, we’ve got women in flag football playing flag football all over the place. I’m just happy that I’ve been able to help set the tone and open some doors in that way. And I know that will continue. And that’s just how I feel about that.” The radio host declared, “Mary Kay is taking the high road! Absolutely terrific answer.”Getting back to the QB -- what about Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam’s “swing and miss” comment about Watson? How did the veteran quarterback react to that?"

“It happens and things like that,” Watson told reporters. “One of my favorite baseball players that I’ve been watching is Bryce Harper. Sometimes he swings [and misses], but he stands back up. And he gets another opportunity, and he hits a home run. So, you never know when the opportunity might show up, and that’s what I have right now.”Just as Sanders looks prepared for his second year, Watson looks prepared for his second opportunity… All we have to do is wait for the front office and the head coach to declare who’s QB1!
