Sleep is a vital component of a healthy life. An unhealthy sleep schedule or insufficient sleep is associated with various health conditions. From heart disease, high blood pressure weakened immunity, cognitive dysfunction to low libido, insufficient sleep can lead to various health problems.

There are various factors that can affect your quality of sleep, including your lifestyle and diet. But did you know sleeping positions can also affect the quality of your sleep and so much more? Here are the three most common sleeping positions and how they can affect your health.

​Sleeping on the stomach

Sleeping on the stomach is still one of the most common sleeping positions. The position is a bit uncomfortable and it affects sleep in various ways.

The problem of snoring can be managed by sleeping on the stomach. People suffering from sleep apnea also benefit from sleeping in this position.

But the position can also lead to neck and back pain. Though the problem of back pain can be solved by keeping a pillow under the lower belly.

​Sleeping on the back

The position can improve the body's alignment and keep the spine, joints and muscles healthy. People suffering from sleep apnea, back pain and snoring can find comfort in this position. It also helps in easing knee and hip pain.

​Fetal position

The curled up position is often common among children and old people. The position can help with lower back pain. Pregnant women can benefit from this position and the problem of snoring also gets relieved.

Sometimes, an uncomfortable fetal position can lead to sore body and restrictive breathing.
