Festivals add zing to life. Be it religious festivals like Christmas, music festivals like Tomorrowland, or film festivals like the Sundance Film Festival, they all accumulate a large audience and see the participation of hundreds of thousands of people. Onion Market | Bern, Switzerland

If you ever happen to be in Bern, and you are overwhelmed with a pungent smell and your eyes begin to water, don’t be alarmed, for you most probably are in the midst of the Onion Market, a folk festival held in the capital city every year. Fifty tons of onion braids, rings and single bulbs are on display, along with textiles, jewelry, and children’s toys.

It is celebrated in a manner similar to that of Holi, where water and colors are replaced with squashed tomatoes which are thrown at one another as part of a friendly fight.

While you’re waiting for the Easter Bunny to leave an Easter egg for you, the people of Bessieres, France, are busy doing something of their own with eggs, and not just one or two or a handful of eggs, but 15000 eggs! In the festival, people witness the gathering of chefs, who work together to make one giant omelette which is then eaten by the townsfolk.
