What happens when you eat avocado

Avocado is a nutrition powerhouse. It is rich in healthy fats, fiber, and protein that make it a daily must-have fruit. 1 medium avocado, which is about 150 grams, without the seed and skin, offers 240 calories, 22 g fat, 15 g monounsaturated fat, 3 g saturated fat, 12 g carbs, 10 g fiber, 1 g sugar, 700 mg potassium, and 3 g protein. It is said that those who eat an avocado daily as part of a meal have a greater abundance of gut microbes that break down fiber and produce metabolites that support gut health. Let's read about five reasons to consume avocados daily.

2/8

Good for digestion

A study at the University of Illinois College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences has revealed that including avocado in your daily diet can help improve gut health. Avocado is rich in fiber, which helps promote regular bowel movements and support gut health. As per a study by the National Library of Medicine, daily avocado consumption results in lower fecal bile acid concentrations, greater fecal fatty acid and SCFAs, and greater relative abundances of bacteria capable of fiber fermentation.

3/8

Keeps heart healthy

Avocado is rich in monounsaturated fats and potassium, which help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and support healthy blood pressure. It has been mentioned in the study that higher avocado intake is associated with lower risk of CVD and coronary heart disease in 2 large prospective cohorts of US men and women.

4/8

Improves skin and hair health

Avocado is also packed with vitamin E, C, and healthy fats, that helps nourish the skin, reduce dryness, and support collagen production. A study states that daily oral avocado consumption may lead to enhanced elasticity and firmness of the facial skin in healthy women. However, further studies of other skin locations are required to establish the connection between avocado consumption and skin aging.

5/8

Boost brain function

Avocado is also referred to as a brain-boosting fruit because it contains healthy fats, antioxidants, and folate. It is said that its dense content of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), carotenoids, fiber, and micronutrients, has the potential to boost cognitive function.

6/8

Regulate blood sugar levels

Avocado has a low glycemic index, which makes it ideal for people with diabetes. The fiber and healthy fats in avocado slows the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, preventing sudden spikes in blood sugar. As per the American Society for Nutrition, daily avocado consumption helps with blood glucose regulation.

7/8

Boost immunity

It is said to boost immunity as well. Rich in vitamin E, a key antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage and supports immune function, avocado also contains vitamin C, B vitamins, and healthy monounsaturated fats, which aid in reducing inflammation and enhancing nutrient absorption.

How to consume avocado

Avocado Toast:

It is one of the most common ways, where you mash the pulp and spread it on toast, then top it with salt, pepper, lemon juice, oregano, chilli flakes, and microgreens.

Avocado Smoothie: One can have it as a smoothie by blending the pulp with spinach, berries, banana, and seeds.

Avocado Salad: This becomes a filling salad when paired with fresh leafy greens like spinach and kale, and topped with charred cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, oranges, and a poached egg.
