CM to inaugurateChiluatal today

Gorakhpur: Once a neglected natural waterbody on the northern edge of the city, Chiluatal has been transformed into a modern tourist destination under the Uttar Pradesh govt's development initiative.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will formally inaugurate the tourism development and beautification project at Chiluatal on Tuesday. Developed at a cost of Rs 20.39 crore, the project has been executed on the lines of the successful rejuvenation of Ramgarh Tal, which has emerged as one of eastern Uttar Pradesh's most popular tourist attractions. Officials believe Chiluatal will similarly evolve into a hub for tourism, recreation and local employment.

According to Rajendra Prasad Yadav, deputy director, tourism department, the development works have already started drawing visitors to the site. The revamped lakefront features a 570-metre pathway, newly constructed ghats, interlocking pavements, railings, stone pitching and landscaping works aimed at enhancing the area's aesthetic appeal and accessibility.

To promote local economic activity, seven kiosks have been constructed along the lakefront, offering opportunities for small businesses and eateries. Visitors will also be able to enjoy boating facilities at the lake. The project includes a toilet block, a grand entrance gate, a 400-metre approach road, electrification works, solar lighting, side walls and drainage infrastructure. Officials said the initiative reflects the state's efforts to replicate the Ramgarh Tal model and create another vibrant recreational destination in Gorakhpur while generating livelihood opportunities for local residents.
