Upholding one’s ideology vital in politics: Gadkari
Amravati: Stressing that finding politicians who stay true to their ideology has become rare, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said 90% of players in politics switch allegiance to join the party that forms govt. "The real reason is the decline of commitment to principles, goals and ideology in politics," he said while slamming political defectors. He was speaking at a programme organised by Shiv Parivar in Amravati to felicitate Shri Shivaji Education Society (SSES) president Hardhawardhan Deshmukh and treasurer Dilip Ingole upon completion of 75 years of life. Gadkari cited example of a fish that swims against the current to emphasise that upholding one's ideology is vital in politics. "Only sticks, rubbish and dead fish are seen flowing with the current," he said to draw home the point.Gadkari said the definition of politics needs to change. "Politics is not just about power. Politics is social work, nation-building and development. It is a tool for socio-economic reform. Educationist Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh followed this ideology, which is why he brought reforms in education and agriculture," he said."Those who think of society and the country plan for 100 years, while those who want to win the next election naturally think of the next five years. But I will not compromise on my ideology and never resort to caste-based politics. Some friends advised me not to say this publicly as this would lead to poll defeat. I have never worried about defeats," Gadkari said. The programmes was held at Shri Shivaji College of Physical Education ground on Sunday evening. Former CJI Bhushan Gavai presided over while MP Balwant Wankhade, minister Pankaj Bhoyar and mayor Shrichand Tejwani were the guests. MLAs Sulbha Khodke, Ravi Rana, MLC Sanjay Khodke were among those on the dais.Gadkari and Gavai feliciated Deshmukh and Ingole. Gavai, Bhoyar and Tejwani recalled the contribution of Deshmukh and Ingole to the education society. Deshmukh and Ingole threw light on their life's journey and thanked the Shiv Pariwar for the felicitation.SSES executive member Hemant Kalmegh delivered introductory remarks while SSES Secretary VG Thakare proposed a vote of thanks. Smita Deshmukh compered the programme.
