R&AW officer’s wife trampled to death by jumbo in coffee plantation in Karnataka's Kodagu
MADIKERI: Senior IPS and R&AW special secretary Sunil Achaya’s wife Sandhya, 51, was trampled to death by a tusker while she was inspecting coffee plantations in Kodagu Friday.
The incident took place around 8.45am when Sandhya went to the plantation with sister-in-law Sapna and three estate staff. An elephant lurking behind the coffee plants charged at the group.
While the others ran to safety, Sandhya fell to the ground and was trampled. Sandhya, who was severely bleeding, died while being taken to Lopamudra Hospital in Gonikoppal.
Sandhya, who lived in Bengaluru with two daughters, had arrived at her native village of Konanakatte three days ago to attend a family wedding. Her husband Sunil Achaya is currently serving as special secretary in the Research & Analysis Wing.
The 1991-batch Nagaland-cadre officer was in the Intelligence Bureau before moving to R&AW. He has also served as Consul General in Geneva, Switzerland The deceased is survived by her husband and daughters.
