Govt gives 17 acres for sports complex at Hanchya Sathagalli
Mysuru: A multi-disciplinary sports complex will come up on the sprawling 17 acres at Hanchya Sathagalli in Mysuru. A decision to sanction this land identified by the Mysuru district administration was taken by the state govt at the recently held cabinet meeting. Assistant director of youth empowerment and sports affairs Bhaskar Nayak said that now the state govt has given approval for 17 acres required to set up a sports complex.
“The department is waiting to receive the official order. With this, all the impediments to take up the project were cleared by the govt. Soon his department will float a global tender, start the works,” he said.
Even though the state govt announced to set up a multi-disciplinary sports complex and cycling velodrome project to promote cycling after allocating Rs 10 crore in the 2023-24 budget, the project did not materialise in the last three years due to delay in identification of the land.
The department of youth empowerment and sports affairs prevailed upon the district administration to sanction at least 25 acres for it. Finally, the state govt gave approval to sanction 17 acres at Hanchya Sathagalli to the department of sports affairs in May this year.
As the required land is now sanctioned by the govt, the department of sports affairs is making all preparations to set up the sports complex.
The department has planned to establish one football court, four shuttle badminton courts in the indoor stadium, one basketball court in the outdoor stadium, four lawn tennis courts and an aqua sports unit in the sports complex. Wrestling, kho-kho, football academy will also be set up along with the cycling velodrome project in the sports complex along with other infrastructure.
