Madurai: Heavy rainfall in Madurai on Thursday afternoon, left many roads waterlogged, causing commuters, especially two-wheeler riders stranded.
The road under the Madurai – Natham bridge was covered in water for several kilometres because of the rain, bringing the traffic intensive road to a halt as commuters slowly struggled through waterlogged roads. The roads remained waterlogged even two hours after the rain stopped.
Goripalayam, Madurai Junction railway station, Narimedu and surrounding areas all experienced heavy flooding.
Heavy rainfall was also reported in Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts. Due to the heavy rainfall, the bathing ban at Courtallam falls continues to be upheld.
According to reports, the water level at Papanasam dam, which has a maximum water level of 143 feet and currently stands at 88 feet, is expected to reach around 100 feet by Friday evening.
