Farmers protest to seek land compensation

Times News NetworkKanpur: Farmers of villages, coming under the ambit of New Kanpur City, on Monday staged a demonstration and staged a sit-in at Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) headquarters to lodge their protest.The farmers alleged that KDA had included their land in its scheme without giving them any compensation. The farmers had lodged a protest on Saturday last too and it was decided between them and the KDA officials to sit in a meeting on Monday. The farmers reached KDA on Monday noon but KDA officials didn’t show interest in the meeting. Later, they called the farmers in their cabin for a meeting.Amit Rajput, president of Bhartiya Kisan Union, Kanpur division said that they had handed over a memorandum to SDM Ravi Pratap Singh SDM, who was alone in the meeting and the matter could not be disposed off.He warned that if their problem was not resolved then a big movement would be launched. On the other hand, SDM Ravi Pratap Singh said that some farmers have not received compensation and he would apprise the senior officials of the farmers’ problems.
