15k challans issued in Raj; ₹25.5L, illegal arms seized
Jaipur: Rajasthan Police issued more than 15,000 traffic challans, arrested 226 people and seized Rs 25.5 lakh during a statewide “mega nakabandi” (road blockade) drive conducted on Monday to crack down on crime, anti-social activities and traffic violations.
The special operation was launched on the directions of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma and covered all police ranges and commissionerates across the state.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) V.K. Singh said police set up 1,103 checkpoints and carried out intensive inspections of 74,872 vehicles, including 39,984 two-wheelers and 34,888 four-wheelers.
The campaign resulted in 15,083 challans for various traffic violations. Police booked 3,234 motorists for riding without helmets, 1,648 for not wearing seat belts, 184 for using mobile phones while driving, 1,653 for violating number plate norms and 1,643 for using unauthorised black films on vehicle windows. Action was also taken against 385 motorists for drunken driving.
Apart from traffic enforcement, police focused on suspicious activities and crime prevention. Eleven vehicles were seized and 73 criminal cases registered, including four under the Arms Act, 30 under the Excise Act and two under the NDPS Act. The remaining cases were registered under various special and local laws.
Police arrested 63 accused in connection with the registered cases, while another 163 people were detained under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on suspicion of involvement in unlawful activities.
The operation also led to significant recoveries. Police seized five vehicles and ₹25.5 lakh in cash in Jaipur Range. In Bharatpur Range, officers seized a tractor allegedly used for illegal sand mining and recovered a large quantity of country liquor. Kota Range reported seizures of illicit liquor, doda chura, vehicles and sound equipment, while Bikaner Range conducted action against illegal liquor and vehicle-related violations.
Jaipur Range recorded the highest number of challans at 2,492, followed by Ajmer (2,229), Bharatpur (2,145), Udaipur (2,051), Kota (1,796), Bikaner (1,572) and Jodhpur (1,470).
Jaipur Range also topped vehicle inspections, checking 13,589 vehicles during the operation.
