132 LPG-free zones identified to push piped gas in Raj

Jaipur: The state govt has identified 132 LPG-free zones and has a target of providing Domestic Piped Natural Gas (DPNG) connection to 43,000 households by the end of June to reduce dependence on LPG cylinders, chief secretary V Srinivas said Monday.

Chairing a meeting of the City Gas Distribution Companies (CGD), he said around 7,400 Domestic Piped Natural Gas (DPNG) connections have been issued in the past 15 days.

He directed CGD companies to prioritise the identified LPG-free zones so that all families in these areas can be brought under the piped gas network.

Srinivas also instructed district supply officers to work closely with CGD companies to ensure faster rollout of connections in areas where infrastructure is already available. He emphasised the need for public awareness campaigns to encourage households to adopt piped gas services.

Additional chief secretary (mines and petroleum), Aparna Arora said the state’s monitoring and coordination efforts have also yielded substantial progress in industrial and commercial gas connections.

Over the past two months, 669 industrial pipeline gas connections, including 33 new industrial units, have been issued. During the same period, 740 commercial gas connections, including 133 new commercial establishments, have been provided.
