Kanhaiya attacker held for abusing voters after BJP loss in Faizabad

Ghaziabad: Daksh Chaudhary, one of the two men accused of attacking Congress’s Kanhaiya Kumar in Delhi last month, and his accomplice Annu Chaudhary were arrested earlier this week for an alleged hate speech abusing voters after BJP lost the Faizabad constituency, home to Ayodhya, to SP in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. ACP Shalimar Garden Siddharth Gautam said that the arrests were made after a video that was circulated widely on social media showed the two men sitting in a car and hurling abuses at the voters in Ayodhya for not voting for BJP in the general elections.“Police took suo motu cognisance of the video and registered an FIR against Daksh and Annu at the Tila Mod police station under IPC sections 295a (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace),” Gautam said. A grand Ram temple was inaugurated in Ayodhya earlier this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fulfilling a long-held political promise of the BJP, one that was expected to cement the party’s poll victory in the constituency. BJP’s Lallu Singh, however, lost to SP’s Awdesh Prasad by nearly 50,000 votes in Faizabad even as the ruling party suffered a surprising loss in UP, winning just 33 out of the 80 seats against the INDIA bloc’s 43 seats. In May, Daksh was accused of slapping and throwing ink on Kanhaiya, Congress’s candidate from northeast Delhi, while campaigning for Aam Aadmi Party councillor Chhaya Sharma in the New Usmanpur area of Delhi. One person was later arrested in that case.In Feb, Daksh and Annu were booked for trying to provoke communal unrest after they entered a mosque in the Tila Mod area with their shoes on.
