Jalandhar: Three Punjabi youths have been sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 25 months to five years in a case of a shooting in Surrey, Canada, in Feb this year, after they pleaded guilty.
"On Feb 1, 2026, at approximately 3.50 am, Surrey Police Service (SPS) members assigned to Project Assurance, working in collaboration with SPS's Major Crime Section, were patrolling in Surrey's Crescent Beach neighbourhood when reports came in of shots fired and a small fire outside a residence near Crescent Road and 132 Street. The three accused were arrested by SPS officers a short time later near 28 Avenue and 140 Street," said Surrey Police Service in a statement issued on Wednesday.
SPS's Major Crime Section led the investigation and, in collaboration with officers on SPS's Project Assurance, was able to secure evidence leading to the charges against Harjot Singh (21), Taranveer Singh (19), and Dayajeet Singh Billing (21).
"All three were initially charged with one count of discharging a firearm into a place contrary to Section 244.2(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. On June 9, 2026, the three men entered guilty pleas and were sentenced in Surrey Provincial Court," SPS said.
Taranveer Singh pleaded guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm and received a sentence of five years. Dayajeet Singh pleaded guilty to throwing an explosive substance and received a sentence of 27 months. Harjot Singh pleaded guilty to throwing an explosive substance and received a sentence of 25 months.
