Twisha Sharma death: Inmate sentenced by Giribal Singh moved to distant barrack
Bhopal: Prison authorities in Bhopal have shifted one of the education scam convicts earlier sentenced by former judge Giribala Singh from the vicinity of her barrack. Meanwhile, the former district judge sought relief from mosquito trouble inside the premises, according to jail sources.Komal Pandey, convicted in a case presided over by Singh during her tenure on the bench, was moved as part of a precautionary exercise to avoid any security or administrative complications inside the prison, sources said. Komal has long figured in cheating and forgery cases linked to alleged multiple medical admission frauds. In one case registered in Bhopal in 2013, she was accused of duping a family of Rs 37 lakh after allegedly promising admission to a private medical college.Singh, arrested in connection with the Twisha Sharma case, has been housed in a separate section of ‘Khand A’, a designated prison block, jail sources said. The arrangement was made keeping in view her former judicial position and the possibility of interaction with inmates who may have previously appeared before her in court.Security concerns over Singh’s stay in jail had earlier been flagged by her lawyer during court proceedings.
The counsel had argued that her past judicial role could create vulnerabilities in custody, given that several inmates may have appeared before her in cases.Apart from mosquito trouble, Singh is learnt to be settling into a prison routine without major difficulty. Jail sources said she requested authorities to address the issue and has not raised any significant complaint regarding other facilities.Meanwhile, the CBI is learnt to be in the final stages of its probe into the Twisha Sharma case, with insiders indicating that a chargesheet is likely within four weeks. Sources said the document is expected to be vetted at senior levels, particularly after the matter came under the cognizance of the Supreme Court.
