Bareilly: UP Police busted an illegal gambling racket involving cockfights in Bareilly’s Bhojipura area, arresting six people, while several others managed to flee.Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a mango orchard near Saidpur Pyarelal village, where a group of individuals had gathered to place bets on cockfights. Six accused were caught red-handed. Authorities recovered seven fighting roosters and Rs 2,910 in cash.During questioning, the arrested persons told police that a local resident had organised the events and made arrangements for betting.An FIR has been registered against the accused under the Gambling Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.SSP Anurag Arya said, “We will take action against anyone else in the district who holds cockfights. The police department remains committed to eliminating such illegal operations and offences related to animal cruelty in Bareilly.”
