Crash, chaos, loot: Villagers rush to grab liquor bottles after truck overturns in Andhra Pradesh
TIRUPATI: Locals ransacked a liquor pickup truck after an accident and decamped with large quantities of alcohol bottles near Basireddypalli in SR Puram mandal of Chittoor district on Saturday.According to the SR Puram police, a liquor consignment was heading to Karvetinagaram from Chittoor on Saturday. When the liquor-laden vehicle was crossing Basireddypalli village, one of the tyres suddenly burst, and the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to its overturn.
Several cartons of liquor lay scattered across the road owing to the impact of the accident, and villagers, who reached the spot, grabbed as many liquor bottles and cartons as possible, triggering a mad rush. By the time local police reached the spot after learning about the incident, almost half the consignment worth about Rs 10 lakh was stolen.SR Puram police registered a case and are further investigating. The injured pick-up truck driver was rushed to the local hospital for treatment.
