Ahmedabad: A handwritten note warning of a terror attack on a sports complex near Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura triggered a security scare on Monday evening, prompting a thorough search by police, bomb disposal squads and fire brigade teams. However, no suspicious object was found during the operation.
According to police, housekeeping staff found the note while cleaning a room at Sports Club that had recently been occupied by three Tanzanian nationals. In charge police inspector H P Garasia of Naranpura police station said the note stated that a terror attack would be carried out at the sports complex on June 21.
“A local resident had booked the room for the three Tanzanian nationals. The club’s facility manager alerted the cops about the note,” Garasia said. Police said the foreign nationals had stayed at the club on May 29 and May 30.
Garasia said the investigators have begun questioning the three Tanzanian nationals, who were in Jaipur on Monday. The local, who had booked the room for them, has also been summoned for questioning. A complaint has been registered.
