From being called 'didi, gay' for wearing a nose ring to getting molested by older men during teenage years; how Vishal Aditya Singh overcame societal taboos and called out the molesters

Vishal Aditya Singh has been a household name in the TV Industry, from Begusarai to Chaand Jalne Laga, the actor has been a heartthrob with each show. In the recent podcast with Paras Chhabra, Vishal opened up about his reason behind wearing a nose ring, the trolls, derogatory remarks he faced for his fashion choices and more. Vishal also got candid about being molested and how he overcame the taboo of hiding it and voicing the matter. He had also confronted the molester in front of the village.

Here's why Vishal started wearing a nose ring

I wanted to wear the nosering for a long time. I used to see Johnny Depp wearing it and I found it cool. And I was in my village when Pirates of the Caribbean came. When I came to Mumbai, here people judged and categorised it so I didn't have that confidence back then. I found it attractive even when I saw people in Rajasthan wearing it. At first, I didn't have that confidence, but now that I do I am wearing it.

His family's reaction on him sporting a nose ring

When I wore the nose ring, normally the guys put you in a box. But Rashami complimented me and many other people. I really liked wearing it and then I went home to the village wearing a gold nose ring. My family members were like 'aree golu naak chhidwa liye' but my mother supported me at that moment and looking at that all of them were like it is looking nice. But if my brother would have worn it, they would have troubled him because he stays in Bihar.

On being trolled for his outfits at Arti Singh's wedding

Those accounts that don't have any face or existence don't matter to me on social media. I don't want to give my attention to the comments made by accounts which are fake. I was using Instagram for more than 3-4 hours and wasting my time. So I chose to deactivate my account.

Here's what Vishal's Instagram DMs were filled with

I wasn't even using the account professionally, neither was I getting any casting calls looking at my Instagram profile. Before deactivating it, I checked the DMs and people had made such derogatory remarks, I even received nu*es sent by boys. And I felt like now I have to watch all this as well. That was also a reason for me to leave Instagram.

Vishal's views on LGBTQ community and on being called gay

We are nobody to support the community. See they have received their legal value, we are nobody to support them. We should let them be. A lot of people have hit on me, a lot of them have called me Bi, Gay and whatnot. I would like to say, mujhe apni sexuality batane ka koi shauq nahi hai. I don't want to tell you what I do. If you think by wearing a nose ring I became gay, jo sochna hai socho.

On Madhurima instigating him by calling him 'didi, behenji' and so on

You should ask Madhurima why she called me 'didi, behenji and all'. She used to constantly use such words to instigate me. If you remember, I had opened up about molestation, so I was on a different tangent during Bigg Boss so it affected me a lot, I got instigated, and I was asking her not to say but she did that constantly. If she says the same thing now, I wouldn't even bothered.

Vishal on wearing a skirt for Fashion Week

Yes, I wore a skirt for Fashion Week, I was walking for Rohit Verma and he had made a show Indradhanush in support of LGBTQ, and I really thank Rohit for choosing me for it. It is my job, I am really happy that I am an actor, I can be anybody, I can create a character, which inspires people. I was really excited to be a part of it, however, I was brutally trolled and bashed for doing the photoshoot. I so want to wear a skirt again and flaunt it with charm.

Vishal opens up about getting molested by older men

So this is something really wrong about society that people often try to hide such topics rather than coming out and talking about them. Especially in villages they are not even aware of LGBTQ, there are such men who don't come out but molest young boys. So in my area, there was Billu who used to teach bikes, I was in 8th and he told me he would teach me how to ride a bike. He touched me wrongly, then I stopped going. He had molested me, then I used to go to play cricket. I went out to play tournament and Rajan Chacha invited us at his place and then at night he molested me, I didn't sleep all night. That is when someone starts crying. I opened up to my friends and I came to know Billu had molested another friend of mine as well.

10/10

When Vishal decided to confront the molester

Even my younger brother has been molested, I didn't know. I felt bad about it so I decided that I would talk about it. I am requesting all mothers if your sons are good looking then please take care of them from such older men. Young boys are also unsafe. When I went back home in Chhat Puja and I had decided that I would confront Billu so I told him, 'maine sunna beti paida hui, 5 saal ki hai, bhejiye usko bhi pyaar karunga jaise aap pyaar karte the.' All of them were stunned and then I revealed what he did to me in childhood, 3 such uncles also opened up that they also got molested.
