These floating islands can be found in Lake Titicaca and float between Peru and Bolivia on a regular basis. They are accessible only by boat—you can opt for a guided tour or hop on a ferry that leaves from the Port of Uros. Upon reaching, get ready for a surprise. You will feel the springy and light “ground” the second you step onto the islands. It is an unusual sensation that takes some getting used to. But to the residents, it is as regular as it gets. These islands are home to indigenous groups that have lived on them for ages. No wonder then, the Uros Islands have their own schools, houses, and even a medical centre.
