Lose yourself in qawwali at one of Delhi’s best-loved Sufi shrines
Word to the wise: If you prefer a quieter qawwali session on a Thursday night, head to Inayat Khan's shrine nearby.

The marble Muslim shrine of the Sufi saint Nizam-ud-din Chishti is one of Delhi's most evocative and inspiring sacred sites. The tomb was first built in 1325 when Chishti died in his nineties, but the dargah (shrine) has had several facelifts since and continues to attract high numbers of devotees from all over the Islamic world.
The shrine is located in a particularly busy and poor part of the city, wedged between narrow alleys and busy streets. Not far from Humayun's Tomb, this spiritual site is at its most alluring on a Thursday evening when you can listen to a session of uawwali (devotional music) just after sunset.
