One of Phnom Penh’s most popular Khmer restaurants for both visitors and locals is Malis—meaning Jasmine flower in Khmer. The restaurant is located a short walk from the Independence Monument and BKK area, or a short tuk tuk ride from Wat Phnom and the Riverside. Although on the busy Norodom Boulevard, it provides a tranquil retreat tucked away from the road. The restaurant has several seating options—depending on how hot it is! Seats outside are scattered around large fish ponds, trees and water fountains. The trickling of the water and soft lighting make you feel as if you are worlds away from the busy streets and hectic traffic of Phnom Penh. There is also seating inside with air-conditioning and private rooms for groups or functions. Most nights there are also traditional musicians playing, creating an exotic ambience.
