Khmer Surin

If you’re looking for some classic Khmer cooking—Khmer Surin is the place for you. Located in the trendy central suburb of BKK, Khmer Surin is a much-loved restaurant and guesthouse. A ‘huge’ establishment, the restaurant has several different areas where you can dine in small or large groups. The first floor is a tropical paradise with traditional style wooden tables and chairs nestled amongst a leafy garden and pond. The soft glow of candles and the smell of incense create a relaxed atmosphere. The second and third levels provide larger spaces for groups to meet on long tables. Live traditional music is often played creating a festive scene and enhancing the cultural experience. The verandas wrapping the large wooden building provide yet more seating. The seating is on the floor with traditional triangle cushions, allowing guests to sprawl across the soft cushions and pillows and get truly relaxed and enjoy the evening.
The menu is extensive and covers classic Khmer and Thai dishes. A selection of appetisers set up the evening well—we recommend the traditional rice cakes with pork dipping sauce or the fresh spring rolls. Mains are simple and traditional. As with most Asian food, it’s always best to get a few items and share (why taste one when you can taste a few?). Options range from fish, meat, vegetarian, noodle and soup dishes. Whole fish are available, packed full with Asian herbs and spices and are great to share with a group.
